Community Highlight: The SON Foundation

What is The SON Foundation?

The SON Foundation addresses the financial and logistical burdens faced by out-of-town cancer patients and their families, while receiving treatment in Indianapolis. Recognizing the added expenses of travel, lodging, and lost wages, the foundation provides free accommodations at its Hospitality House. Located near major hospitals, the house offers private and shared rooms, a full kitchen, and communal spaces to create a “home away from home.” Beyond physical comfort, the SON Foundation offers emotional and spiritual support, fostering a community among guests and providing access to treatment resources. By offering free lodging and support, the SON Foundation aims to alleviate stress and allow families to focus on healing. The foundation welcomes all patients, caregivers, and families regardless of religious affiliation.

How can I become involved?

While guests are not charged to stay at The SON Foundation House, operating expenses average around $7,000 per month. Therefore, The SON Foundation is always looking for donations and volunteers to help support their vision. Additionally, they host annual fundraising events to help generate awareness and donations.

What is The SON Foundation Gala?

Their biggest fundraising event is their annual SON Foundation Gala, which features a fabulous dinner and silent auction. This year’s gala will take place on March 9th.
